Did my ICE some time ago -- so I've had quite a long enough experience to share some views on it. If you're going Voodoo from stock like me, Here are some of the positive effects of ICE Voodoo that I experienced:

1) Clarity
I started hearing sounds in my favourite music that I did not hear before. Especially in the mid to higher frequency ranges. I've listened to Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting" a thousand times before in the car, but when I heard it after voodoo, I was brought right back to the late 80s as I heard the crystal piano play in such clarity. If one can describe sound in colours, then going from stock to Voodoo is like moving from 256VGA colours to 32 bit (16 million) colours. Months down the road, I'm still digging out old CDs and listening to all my old collections one by one, sometimes rediscovering some parts/instruments I didn't hear clearly before.

2) Balance
Some ICE products give you a lot of volume but are poor on balance/harmonics. This means you get no added value to the music quality, but you get to hear the same stuff 10 times louder. Some people are ok with this. Fortunately, the Voodoo is about balance. I can hear the same quality at lower volumes that I hear in a louder volume. Previously, anything below a level 7 sounded like distant tin cans ... now, I can hear the entire frequency range at a low volume, and still have a conversation with my wife. In fact, I can increase the volume to 30, and the sound would not get distorted in its harmonics.

3) Levelling and Space
The stock system had its music centered at a lower point of the cabin. The Voodoo moves the music to ear-level giving a feeling similar to listening to headphones. This also allows accurate realization of panning effects (like hearing a drum rolling from right ear to left ear) in a more pronounced manner. This is also why I get better sound clarity at lower volumes. It gives the cabin an expanded feeling like listening to music in a hall.

4) Noise and Vibrations
A lot of the rattling sound the speakers used to cause by vibrating on the door is gone. No matter at what volume I hear music, the doors do not shake or rattle. Also, the excellent workmanship of Desmonds passionate staff ensured that engine revs do not disturb the ICE so I get a stable volume at all times without any noise creeping into the speakers.

5) Workmanship
Desmond has the best workmanship for ICE that I've ever seen ... Nothing more needs to be said.

6) Price
Best value for this kind of money ..

I'll start my comments by saying that our stock ICE is decent, nothing spectacular....
I'm a nooby when it comes to ICE but I've been playing with hifi since my uni days in London 10-15 yrs ago, so I already more or less knows what kind of "sound" that I like from my system.

First thing that I would like to comment on our stock ICE is that the tweeter is cr*p. I'm a sucker for those piercing high as maybe my ears are already tuned to Focal Berylium tweeters that I'm using for my home setup. Infact, I used Nordost Heimdall cables for my hifi as those PCOCC, mono-crystal copper from Prof. Furukawa or whatever they wanna call it make the high become lifeless (to my ears at least). If you play hifi, you'll understand where I'm coming from.

After voodoo, now this is where it becomes interesting.

Bro Eldiablo advised me that to get the best out of voodoo, use Jazz setting and set the tone control to 0. Before voodoo, my setting was type Rock, Treble +4 and Bass +2. With voodoo at new setting, I get clearer treble, raise the soundstage, better imaging, depth/layering and more airy.

Me and Des were listening to my type of music, i.e. Metallica, Nickelback, Malay rock like Search, Wings, etc. No Audiophile collections in my ride although I have those Chesky, XLOs, FIM cds for my home system. Try playing Search, Fantasia Bulan Madu where the opening keyboard/synthesizer sounds goes from left to right, encapsulating you in the center.

With voodoo, I've no problem listening to those music at volume setting above 30 although most of the time I like to tune it to around 25 only. Even at this setting, the treble and mid remain clear and the bass is tight and punchy, i.e. fast. Before voodoo, at this volume level, the treble becomes harsh, i.e. pecah, and the mid and bass become muddle.

So now comes the million dollar question.
Is it worth the RM250?

If you don't want to spend thousands on dollars on new HU, speakers, amp, cables, etc, (as what is the title of this thread) this is where you should spend your money to get better enjoyment from your stock ICE, well other than buying your favourite CDs of course.
